Health

Climate

August in Delhi NCR is typically hot and humid, with daytime temperatures averaging around 35°C and dropping to around 28°C at night. Occasional rainfall due to the monsoon is common, so we recommend carrying an umbrella or rain jacket. For the most up-to-date weather forecast, please check here.

Water

Tap water in Gurugram is not recommended for direct consumption. Bottled drinking water will be available on all transport vehicles and at all event venues throughout the week. Please remember to stay hydrated.

Smoking

Please check the smoking signage to identify dedicated smoking locations. Smoking is not permitted within hotel bedrooms.

Safety

Transport

We will arrange all your transfers within the Shell Helix programme in Gurugram. In line with Shell's life-saving rules, you are expected to always wear your seatbelts.

If you plan to use taxis during your free time and throughout your stay in Delhi NCR, ensure that seatbelts are available and working before you start your journey and always wear one.

Please speak to the hotel concierge if you require any assistance organizing transport outside the Shell Helix programme.

Always remember to take your hotel address, and a map showing its location, with you.

In Your Room

Look at the emergency exit plans on the back of your hotel room door and locate your nearest exit. Ensure that you can easily locate this in the event of an evacuation. Please take a few minutes to review the HSSE information on the event website and your final joining instructions, which includes HSSE concerns about hotel stays while travelling to and attending a Shell sponsored event.

Public Safety

Follow these steps:

While any type of major safety or emergency situation is unforeseen during your time in Delhi NCR, should this happen, please follow

  • Remain calm.
  • Safely and quickly remove yourself from danger.
  • Follow the instructions of police and emergency personnel.
  • Safely return to your hotel. If you are unable to access the hotel, please head to one of the designated assembly points. You will be briefed on assembly points upon your arrival in Gurugram.
  • If you cannot reach any of the assembly points, please call the emergency phone number provided to advise of your location and wait for further instructions.
  • In the very unlikely incident of a terrorist event during the programme, the RUN-HIDE-TELL response should be employed.

Security

Belongings and Valuables

Always keep your belongings close to you and make sure that your bags are zipped or locked. Although Gurugram is a safe city, petty crime is present, just as in any other big city in the world. If you are a victim of crime, please inform the local police and a member of the Shell Helix team immediately. We recommend that any valuables you may have with you - e.g. keys, camera and laptops/tablets - are kept secure in the safe located in your hotel bedroom, which you can program with a code of your choice. Do not forget to retrieve your items before your departure. Overall, we would recommend the following to keep your belongings and valuables safe during your stay:

  • At ATMs, cover the keypad to hide your PIN (personal identification number) and do not let yourself be distracted by anyone.
  • Don't handle or change currency in the street; use a currency exchange or bank.
  • Make payments with small notes or credit card.
  • Only carry any valuables and funds (cash or credit cards) that are essential for your plans each day.

Name badge

For security reasons, anyone who does not wear a Shell Helix name badge will be refused entry to events and activities during the program. Please ensure that you wear your name badge for the duration of the event. However, to avoid externals from knowing your name and using that to gain your trust, when travelling around the city on foot or public transport between hotels and venues or while at leisure, your badge should be concealed from view or placed in a bag or pocket until it is needed.

NO BADGE = NO ENTRY TO SHELL HELIX EVENTS

Alcohol

It is illegal to consume alcohol anywhere except a licensed premise, including any public space, on the streets or during transportation.
